Ingredients:
- 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
- ¾ cup (180ml) warm water
- 1 tsp (3g) active dry yeast
- 1 tsp (5g) sugar
- ½ tsp (3g) salt
- 1 tbsp (15ml) extra virgin olive oil
- 2 tbsp (30g) unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tsp (3g) garlic powder
- 3 tbsp (15g) grated Parmesan cheese
- ½ tsp (1g) dried oregano
- 18 sliced almonds
Instructions:
- Stir the sugar and yeast into warm water and let it sit for 5 minutes until it becomes foamy.
- Combine flour and salt in a bowl; pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil.
- Mix by hand or with a mixer until the dough is smooth and elastic (about 5 minutes).
- Cover with a damp cloth and let it rest for 10 minutes to relax the gluten.
- Roll the dough into a rectangle about ½ inch (1.2cm) thick.
- Slice the dough into 18 equal strips, roughly 4 inches (10cm) long.
- Roll each strip into a cylinder and use your thumb to press small indentations at two points to create knuckles.
- Press one sliced almond firmly into the tip of each finger.
- Mix the garlic powder into the melted butter; brush the mixture over each finger, focusing on the knuckles.
- Sprinkle the Parmesan and oregano over the tops.
- Bake at 400°F (204°C) for 12–15 minutes until the edges are golden brown.
- Let them cool on the pan for 5 minutes to allow the structure to firm up.
