Ingredients:

  • 225g unsalted butter, softened
  • 200g granulated white sugar
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 0.5 tsp almond extract
  • 360g all-purpose flour, sifted
  • 0.5 tsp fine sea salt
  • 1 tsp deep red gel food coloring
  • 1 tsp royal blue gel food coloring
  • 18 wooden popsicle sticks
  • 1 tbsp sparkling white sanding sugar

Instructions:

  1. Cream the softened butter and granulated sugar in a stand mixer with a paddle attachment on medium speed until a velvety paste forms. Do not over-aerate.
  2. Incorporate the room temperature egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract into the butter mixture until fully combined.
  3. Slowly add the sifted all-purpose flour and sea salt. Mix until a cohesive, heavy dough forms and pulls away from the sides of the bowl.
  4. Divide the dough into three equal portions. Leave one portion plain (white). Knead the red gel food coloring into the second portion and the blue gel food coloring into the third until the colors are vibrant and streak-free.
